Course Overview

The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three main parts:

1. Knowledge Development - book learning to understand basics of dive theory

2. Confined Water Dives - master the required scuba skills for open water

3. Open Water Certification Dives - bring your newly mastered skills to a real diving environment while exploring!

Part 1: Knowledge Development

Once you've signed up for the course, please stop by the shop and pick up your Open Water Book. You will go through the book and complete all of the knowledge review sections. Once the book is completed, you will bring it to camp, where we will watch some videos and do some activities. Lastly, you will take some quizzes and a final exam before your knowledge development is complete! We will do the knowledge development from Monday to Wednesday in the morning.

Part 2: Confined Water Dives

Your confined water dives will take place at Ventura Dive & Sport's on-site pool! You will learn and master the different dive skills and techniques needed for certification. After your knowledge development, you will complete the pool Monday through Wednesday in the afternoon.

Part 3: Open Water Certification Dives

The final portion of the certification includes a minimum of four dives in the open water scheduled over at least two days. We accomplish that on our very own boat, The Raptor! You will finish your certification on Thursday and Friday at the beautiful Channel Islands. 

Prerequisites:

• 10 years or older (ages 10-14 can earn the Junior Open Water Diver certification)
• Complete all required paperwork

The Scuba Gear You Use

In the PADI Open Water Diver course, you learn to use basic scuba gear, including a dive computer and standard accessories. You will need to bring your swimsuit and towel. We'll provide everything else.

Required Paperwork

We'll be sending new students all the required paperwork, or you can stop by the shop to fill it out. This will include a Medical Questionnaire, which may require you to get a physician's approval before diving.

Course Cost

All-Inclusive Package: $1500

This includes your learning materials, all scuba equipment, confined-water dives, and dives on our boat.
